Tips, what you should take with you going to Finland

As the semester abroad approached and it was time to pack my suitcase, I was completely lost in the beginning. I didn't know what to pack and what was totally unnecessary, was I underestimating the weather and should pack warmer clothes or is what I already packed warm enough, what if I want to go out, how many jackets will I need. Questions over question. But I think in the end I packed the necessities and I was not missing too much. I could have used the space for some T-shirts for another pullover but whatever I survived. One of the most helpful tips I found online, regarding the cold and wet weather was to dress in the onion style, which means to have many different layers of clothing on top of each other. This really helped me especially in the last months here.

But I was thinking what I would have packed, when I knew what I know now. So here is a list of things, someone might want to add to their suitcase:

  • Really good winter boots
  • Socks made out of wool
  • Warm, WINDPROOF jacket
  • Hat, scarf and gloves
  • Umbrella
  • Tights for underneath
  • Ski pants (when you go to Lapland)
  • Vitamin D (for the dark winter)
  • Zinc (for the immune system)
  • Camera
  • Thermos flask
  • Hot water Bottle
