As my last trip, before leaving Finland, Steffi and I decided to go to Åland. It is a autonomous state of Finland on an island between Turku and Stockholm. There is a ferry going from Turku over Mariehamn, which is the capital of Åland, to Stockholm. Form Turku to Mariehamn we payed about 24 € for both tickets, which is totally fine in my opinion. We stayed for one night in close to the city center and we had a plan what we wanted to see, but honestly we totally threw out the plan and just walked next to the shore. It was so stunning and I will definitely return to the island in summer and in the deep winter time again. The first day we had such luck with the weather, it was sunny and it had been snowing the day before. The island showed itself from its beautiful and calm side. The second day was totally different, there was a storm for the whole night and also the next day. We had winds up to 56 km/h, but Steffi and I still went out and didn't let the bad weather stop us. We went in the other direction from the day before and found impressive shores, where the water which was very wild from the storm hit the rocks. It seamed like the Åland wanted to tell us, that it could also be violent and aggressive. The island is especially recommended for summer cyclists, it has many cycle paths and beautiful vegetation.
We could have stayed for much longer, but unfortunately we had to leave.
