In Finland the game industry is one of the strongest and fasted growing industry worldwide. Some of the biggest gaming companies are Supercell and Rovio Entertainment, which are both located in Finland. Supercell is known for Clash of Clans or Hay day, which are both very popular games in the gaming community. Rovios founders are three students of Helsinki University of Technology, they established the company in 2003 based on their successful participation in a game development competition. Their headquarters is located in Espoo, Finland and by 2014 they already expanded to China, Japan, India, Sweden, the UK, the USA and South Korea and have more than 800 employees. In 2009 they developed the mobile game Angry Birds, which was a huge success all over the world. Soon after the success they started selling merchandise, like plush toys, board games, soft drinks, clothing and books. They also produced cartoon series and movies with the Angry Birds as main character. To mix up the game a little bit they offer themed versions, like a Chinese New Year theme or a space theme, but the basics of the game never change.
Helsinki is host to the world's leading start ups & entrepreneurship convention "Slush". Many people gather there and a lot of them are connected to the gaming industry. It is a huge event each year in November. We met some people in our hostel in Helsinki and according to them it was once again an amazing convention.
