Finnish language

The Language of Finland is one of the most difficult in the world and similar to the Hungarian Language. But luckily all the Finns speak English very well and are quite used to people not understanding their language, because they know how hard it is. But I think when you travel to a new country there should be some things you should know. The basics which you use each day.

  • Hello - Hei / Moi / Hei Hei / Moi Moi / Moika
  • Good morning - Hyvää huomenta
  • Good evening - Hyvää iltaa
  • Good night - Hyvää yötä
  • My name is ... - Minun nimeni on ...
  • How are you? - Mitä kuuluu?
  • I'm fine. - Yoin hyvin.
  • Thank you - Kiitos
  • Your welcome - Ole hyvää
  • Sorry - Anteeksi
  • Good bye - Moi Moi / Hei Hei
  • I love you - Rakastan sinua (not really day to day use but nice to know)

Also when you want to learn some more words here is a game, which our Finnish teacher showed us and it is actually quite fun. http://www.digitaldialects.com/Finnish.htm

The pronunciation of words is very important because just saying a word not long enough can mean something different.

Lippu on tuulessa. - The flag in in the wind.

Lippu on tulessa. - The flag is in fire.

Tapaan vanhan kaverin. - I'll meet my old friend.

Tapan vanhan kaverin. - I'll kill my old friend.

also Finnland has 16 language cases whereas German only has 4.
