I think when you move to a new city the first few days are always a lot. You have to figure out how things work here and how to get to the places, where you need to be in the future. I was very overwhelmed by all the new information and places.
One thing that was really odd to me the first time I saw it were the kitchen cupboards above the sink. In Austria its just a regular kitchen closet but here they use it for the wet dishes to dry.... it´s actually really smart, that way the water doesn´t go everywhere but in the sink.
Another weird thing for me in the kitchen was the first drawer is most of the time a cutting board... you wouldn´t want to know how often I opened this exact drawer looking for the cutlery and not finding it, the worst thing is when you open it the front is just attached at the bottom and it bends all the way, the first few times opening the drawer it thought i broke it! Which wouldn´t be so shocking because I´m way to clumsy...
Something else that´s quite extra is that the public bathrooms have a sink inside the bathroom stall as well as outside. Finland explain! Where is the point in that?
What´s really cool here is the fact, that when you want to get on a bus, you have to give the bus driver a sign with you hand... otherwise they will just pass you. That´s quite nice, because then they don´t loose any time waiting for passengers to might get on the bus.
And fun fact about the buses in Turku, there is also a Water bus, the Vesibussi,, you can go to some of the islands around Turku. Steffi and I used it to get to Ruissalo for the first times. Unfortunately does the Vesibussi only drive till the beginning of September, so if you are in Turku around this time, hurry to catch the last trips.
I would definitely recommend going to Ruissalo, it´s beautiful and with some luck you see some wild animals after having a delicious blueberry cake at the café there!
